General Information

The Register of Deeds office  provides a standardized, permanent record of real estate ownership transfers in Forsyth County. Our office records deeds, deeds of trust, cancellations, plats, assumed names, powers of attorney and other miscellaneous documents related to real estate. Our office also record and issue birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, marriage licenses,military discharges,and maintains the records of notary commissions.


If you are requesting a copy of a new birth, recent death, or marriage, allow 10 days before ordering the record.

Please note the information below:

        • Records are available back to 1913
        • Requests are processed on a first come first-serve basis
        • Requests for information can be completed online and will be processed on normal business days during normal business hours (Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:00 PM),except holidays.
        • For requests submitted after 4pm, the earliest the request can be sent and processed is the next business day.
        • Communication regarding your request, payment status, and delivery are sent by email.

Please Note: Not answering the Identity Verification questions at the end of the application process could result in a denial of your request, as we will not be able to determine your identity.  



The Register of Deeds office acts as a recording office only. North Carolina General Statutes specifically prohibit the Register of Deeds or staff from practicing law. We are unable to supply legal forms, provide instruction on drafting or completing forms, or answer questions regarding the legal consequences of instruments filed. We advise you to consult an attorney if you have any legal questions.

Information Related to NC General Statutes 130A-93 and 130A-26A:
NC General Statute 130A-26A It is a felony to fraudulently request a certified copy of a vital record or obtain, possess, sell, furnish, use, or attempt to use for any purpose of deception a North Carolina Vital Record.
NC General Statute 130A-93 This statute specifies who is entitled to obtain a certified copy of a North Carolina Vital Record. Those entitled to obtain a North Carolina Vital Record are as follows: yourself, spouse, brother/sister, parent/grandparent, child/stepchild/grandchild, legal representative, Authorized agent.
